Heirs

PRAY

Remember to pray & read the entire passage before you begin.

“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
Titus 3:4-7

WRITE

When we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior our relationship with God changes. When we put our faith in Jesus –  we receive His Holy Spirit , and “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Romans 8:14. We are His children – what love… what mercy…what hope…

  • Why did God our Savior save us when He came?
  • What act of His Holy Spirit took place in us at that time?
  • How are we justified?
  • Then what do we become (see also Romans 8:14-17)?
  • What has been poured out on us (I love this image)?
  • What does it mean to you to be considered an heir  in God’s kingdom?
  • How does that renew your hope and change how you look at your circumstances today?

GROW

Praying that the reality of your identity in Christ will become more real to you today. May you hope in Him as he rejuvenates, and renews you through the work of His Spirit in your life. May your love of your Savior grow deeper and richer today as you look forward to your eternal hope! Praying for you!

PRAY

There are passages in scripture that give us a peek inside of heaven.

1 Corinthians 2:9    Revelation 21:22-27
Revelation 5   John 17:24   John 14:1-3

But, until the day He calls us home we will not know what it it will be like. What joy it will be to praise our Almighty God face to face!

WRITE

What do you think that you’ll do
when you meet Jesus?

Listen to the song by Mercy Me and pray about it…

GROW

It really is too much to imagine. Thanking God we have the gift of Jesus Christ… that one day we will be able to be in heaven  – bowing, singing, praising, dancing, loving, being still… Praying that we would have a glimpse of that day as we put our Hope in Him!

So That…

John 17: 20-26

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message…”
John 17:20

  • Who is Jesus praying for in this passage?
  • You! If you know Jesus as your savior then He is praying for you! It really is too much to even fathom. From v. 21 what does he ask God to provide?
  • Jesus desires that we would be unified just as the Father and the Son are one. What is the result of that connection? Finish the SO THAT statement.
  • When this occurs what is accomplished (v. 23)?
  • Ultimately the world does not know God. But, Jesus has made Him known for what purpose?
  • Jesus desires that the love of God would be in us and that He would be in us (John 15:1-11). This is a love so great and deep that it can transform us and the world. Respond to this amazing love.
  • What insights does this shine into your life and how will you respond and apply it? Write down your thoughts and ask the Lord to lead you on this journey into deeper love with Him

There is no love greater than the love of God for us. Ask the Spirit to draw you deeper into relationship with Him that you would understand how wide, long, high & deep is the Love of Christ!  Praying for you!

Psalm 33

We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

Psalm 33:20-22

  • This is a beautiful Psalm that clearly reveals who God is, His power on this earth, and in the hearts of man. Read over the Psalm and write down all the aspects of our world where God proclaims His authority.
  • How is God’s love described?
  • His love is unfailing as we wait in hope, trusting in Him… what should the condition of our heart be (v. 1-3 & v. 21)?
  • The Bible continually refers to God’s love as steadfast or unfailing (Genesis 39:21, Exodus 15:13,  Psalm 36:7, Jeremiah 9:23-24, 1 Corinthians 13:8) . What does it mean to you to trust in a God whose love never fails?

Isaiah 42:5

God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out.

  • You are created! Crafted perfectly (Psalm 139) by the Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are created… He is Creator – who do you choose to rely on for your strength?
  • Take time now to trust Him who gives life and breath. Praise His name for this day & for His Spirit that lives in you.

Nehemiah 8:9-12

“And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10

pink oval zigzag write

In this passage Israel gathers to hear God’s word read to them. Unlike us, they did not have a copy – or several – to pour over in individual study. As Ezra reads, the people become so grieved they begin to weep.

  • But in verse 10, Nehemiah reminds them of what their attitude should be. Write it down.
  • As believers in Jesus Christ… we have not only His word, but His Spirit. Read 1 Corinthians 2:10-12. We are filled with His Spirit, He knows every thought – every feeling – and gives generously according to His love and mercy and wisdom. The joy of the Lord is our strength! It is not about worldly happiness, but eternal –  God given Joy. How does this change your perspective on the Joy from the Lord.
  •  “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 5:13 NLT
    • Who is our source of hope?
    • What do we need to do to be filled with joy and peace?
    • What can the result be?
  • We have a choice. Putting our trust in God and allowing Him to fill us with His joy and strength… or looking to this world for happiness and affirmation. What will you choose?
  • Pray Romans 5:13 for yourself today & trust God for His joy and strength.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

  • Although life sometimes seems haphazard, you can be certain that it is not an accident. What does Jeremiah 29:11 tell us about God’s plan?
  • He knows the plans He has for you. Write down the words that He uses to describe the plan that He has for your life.
  • What joy to know He has plans to give us a future and a hope. Write the definition of hope.
  • What do we know about  hope from God’s word (see Romans 5:2-5, Romans 12:12,Romans 15:4, Romans 15:13).
  • Hope does not disappoint…because we know Jesus, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). Write down what it means to you to have hope not built on circumstances or wishes… but build not the cross of Christ and God’s perfect plan for your life into eternity.
  • He knows! Put your life in His hands, and ask God to pour out His hope into your heart by the power of the Holy Spirit so that you will overflow with hope.

Romans 5:2b-4

  • The word tribulation holds many meanings from a simple sadness to great anguish. But in all states of suffering how are we called to face them?
  • It all goes back to the attitude that we talked about yesterday. What attitude do we need to maintain (Psalm 118:24)?
  • Romans 5:24 gives us a reason we should be patient in our suffering. Write it out using this format as an example Suffering = _________
  • And so… we end up back at Hope! What has God poured out for us?
  • He fills us with His love by the power of His Spirit! Read Romans 8:31-29. No matter what may come, physical trials, emotional difficulties, spiritual battles who is advocating for you?
  • Is there any thing that can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus?
  • He truly has a plan for your life to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11) and He can work all things together for the good of those who are called by Him (Romans 8:28). Listen to the song by Laura Story, “Blessings”. How does this change your perspective on suffering?

  • Who is our only hope (John 3:16).
  • What does it mean to you that we have a living hope (Luke 24:46-49)?
  • If you know Jesus, your hope is certain. How does 1 Peter 1:4 describe you inheritance?
  • In John 14:1-3 Jesus himself tells us about what we have to look forward to. Write down what he is preparing for you.
  • This gives us much to rejoice about. Our hope is certain our place is prepared. We should live with an attitude of Joy clinging to our true Hope… Jesus. Praise Him now for His gift to us, and ask the Lord to maintain in you a joyful hope.
  • Remember… this world puts it’s hope in “things.” Their hope is dead. Let us show today in our actions and attitudes what it means to have a living hope in Jesus Christ.

“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.”
1 Timothy 6:17

  • Do you think you are rich?
  • By the world’s standards you probably are. Here Paul instructs us on how we should think about money. According to this passage where should your hope lie?
  • God provides everything for us to enjoy, which is hard to see sometimes in our consumer economy where we can seemingly fulfill our needs and wants immediately. What does your life look like when your shift your focus from what you provided yourself to what God has provided for you?
  • We have a choice each day what to do with our wealth. Paul gives us some instructions on how to use our money. Write down some ways you could use your money that would fit into his list.
  • What is the result when we choose to focus on God and not money?
