folly

PRAY

Dear God, help us to open our eyes to the truth of your word and see only Christ!

WRITE

READ 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18

  • What does this passage tell us about the word of the cross (v.18)?
  • What does verse 21 tell us about how we know God and are saved (see also Ephesians 2:8-9)?
  • How does that present a problem to the world (v. 22)?
  • What does Paul preach (v.23).
  • And Christ is… (v.24)?

GROW

  • It is easy to think that we need to have the perfect words, or know the Bible front to back in order to share about Jesus. But here, Paul breaks it down. They are not going to be convinced by wisdom or signs – it is only about Christ and Christ crucified. He IS the power and wisdom. Pray about with whom God would like you to the share the folly of the cross.

Dear Father God, we praise your for the mighty day on Calvary when Jesus took on our sin. Where he was crucified for our sake. Where he willingly gave up is life to save the lost. That he rose again and sits with you in heaven as our advocate. Thank you that you have revealed yourself to us. That by grace we have been saved through faith. Lord, may we have hearts to see the lost. May we have eyes to see those with whom you would like us to share the story of Christ – knowing that it is he who is power and wisdom. May you open the eyes of many to the truth of Christ. In Jesus name… Amen

speed ahead

PRAY

Dear God, you have given us a mission – to make disciples of all nations – help us to daily remember our brothers and sisters who have been sent afar. Help us to remember that no matter where we are that we, too, have been sent…

WRITE

READ 2 Thessalonians 3:1-2

Finally, brothers pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you,  and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith.”

  • What 2 things does Paul ask the Thessalonians to pray for?
  • Think about what it means for the word of God to speed ahead (see also Acts 2:42-47, Hebrews 4:12, Isaiah 55:11)

GROW

  • Think of specific missionaries or persecuted brothers and sisters that you know. Pray for them now…

Dear Father God, we thank you that you have sent each one of us on a mission for you. Lord may your word speed ahead as we seek ways to shine your light and love in this dark world. We pray especially for people who are currently spreading your word in hostile places. We ask Lord that your word would go out and as you have promised accomplish the purpose for which is was sent. Lord, soften hearts and open eyes to your love that when your word is shared many would be added to the number of your followers. Father, we also pray for their protection that they would be delivered from wicked and evil men – and that their eyes too would be opened to your love for them. In Jesus name. Amen

boundless

PRAY

Dear God, Lord may we learn to love the way that you love, and by this may we grow to know you more.

WRITE

READ Philippians 1:9-11

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1:9-11 NIV

  • What is Paul’s prayer for the Philippians?
  • As their (and our ) love abounds more and more in knowledge and insight what is the result?
  • As their (and our) discernment increases what is the result?
  • As they (and we) grow in Christ and the fruit of righteousness grows in us what is the result?

GROW

  • This is one of my favorite scriptures to pray for people and for myself. Take time now to pray this for yourself and for people that God has put on your heart.

Dear Father God, increase the love in our hearts that it may overflow from us. May that love grow in what we understand and see about others and about the world. May what we speak be wrapped in that knowledge and reveal your love to the world. Help our discernment to increase so that we may make right choices that reflect your love & character, and continue to conform us into the image of your Son. Help us to abide in Christ knowing that only when we abide in Him can we bear fruit, and Lord may the fruit that comes from that relationship with Christ be evident in us and bring you much glory and praise. In Jesus Name… Amen!

As we start this new year, God has put it on my heart to pray scripture in the coming days. There will be a slight change to my format, but I hope you will join me in raising our voices in prayer.

PRAY

Dear God, may we tune our hearts to you each and every step of each and every day.

WRITE

READ Proverbs 3:1-12

“My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,
for length of days and years of life
    and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
    bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:1-3

  • Take time to go through this Proverb and write down each command that we are given.
  • Go back through and write the result of each command.

GROW

  • Try to focus this week on taking everything to the Lord – trusting not in your own ways but His!

Dear Father God, we come before you humbled that you see and hear us. Thank you Lord that you promise that when we come before you that we can trust that you will guide our way. It is not that our way will be easy, or perfect or what we would choose, but that you promise that your steadfast love and faithfulness will be with us. Lord help us to bind them around our neck and write them on our heart – trusting you to make our path straight. In Jesus name… Amen

As we start this new year, God has put it on my heart to pray scripture in the coming days. There will be a slight change to my format, but I hope you will join me in raising our voices in prayer.

PRAY

Dear God, may we, like Paul, struggle on behalf of others. May we have a heart for those we know and those we don’t know and may we grow to know you more of you each day.

WRITE

READ Colossains 2:1-3

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face,  that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ,  in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

  • What does Paul tell us about what he has been doing, and what does that tell you about what we should be doing?
  • What does Paul want believers to “be”?
  • What does the image of hearts knit together tell you about how we are connected to our fellow believers?
  • What does he want them to reach?
  • He wants them to be fully assured of and understand God’s mystery – Christ – in whom are what?

GROW

  • Take time to pray this for the people in your church, pastors, believers across our nation and around the world.

Dear Father God, we praise you that you have given us the example of Paul. A man that was completely transformed and made new in Christ. Lord give us hearts like his. Give us hearts that desire to struggle with and for those we know and those we don’t. We pray today that our hearts may be encouraged, and that you would knit together the hearts of all believers everywhere. That we would see the image of God in each one and love the way that you have loved us. Lord help each believer grown to truly know Christ that we may have godly wisdom and knowledge so as to minister to one another and all. In Jesus Name… Amen

PRAY

Dear God, may you help us see you as you are. May you reveal yourself to us in your word.

WRITE

As we learn in Revelation 1, the book is “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place.” Revelation 1:1. There are many amazing words of revealing God’s truth and prophecy about things yet to come. There is much to dig into in this book, but here – we are going to look at the simple prayer that the 24 elders say as fall down before God, casting their crowns before Him.

READ Revelation 4:11

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”

Take time to fall down before your Lord and God today – for He is worthy to receive glory and honor and power!

GROW

Our Lord God Almighty, you are holy. We acknowledge that you are eternal and you are the one who was and is and is to come! We fall on our knees because you are worthy. You are worthy of all our praise, may you receive glory and honor and power. You have create each of us and all things it is only by your will that they came to be. May we be in awe of you each day as you reveal yourself in your creation, may we be moved each day to give you glory and honor. In Jesus Name… Amen

PRAY

Dear God, we praise you that you are love, and that you have given us the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide and grow us. Lord help us to see more clearly your will for our lives through your word today.

WRITE

READ 2 Timothy 1:6-7

“I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,  for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

  • What does Paul remind Timothy to do?
  • How does Paul describe the spirit that is in Timothy and us?
  • Do you have something that you are afraid of?
  • What can you actively do to exercise your spirit of power and love and self control in regard to that fear?

GROW

  • Remember to fan into flame the gift that God has given you…

Dear Father God we thank you that you that we do not have to live in fear because you have given us a spirit of power and love and self-control. Lord help us to live with confidence not in our own strength, but in yours. Not with our own love, but with yours. And in full dependance of of your will and not our own. In Jesus Name – Amen!

Lord if we are feeling rattled, lost or afraid – help us to remember that you never leave us or forsake us…we will not be shaken. In Jesus Name – Amen!

live like heirs

As we start this new year, God has put it on my heart to pray scripture in the coming days. There will be a slight change to my format, but I hope you will join me in raising our voices in prayer.

PRAY

Dear God, please place up on our heart just how to pray for ourselves, as well as who you would have us pray for. Lord may you direct our words and guide our thoughts as we come before you in prayer.

WRITE

READ Titus 3:1-7

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

  • Write down the actions that Paul asks Titus to remind the believers.
  • Why is it important for for believers to be gentle and courteous to all people (v. 3 -5)?
  • God is full of mercy and love – what is the result of our transformation?
  • We are heirs according to the hope of eternal life – what joy that we have been saved and have new life. Who do you want to be reborn in this way. Write a prayer asking the Lord to work in their lives, and ask Him to show you how He can use you to share the hope that you have.

GROW

  • Remember to pray for this person (people) throughout the week, as well as to live out Paul’s reminders to the believers.

Dear Father God we praise you for your mercy and grace that you have lavished on us. Lord we were one disobedient and foolish, but thanks to your loving kindness and the regeneration of the Holy Spirit we have been justified and have become heirs to the hope of eternal life. Alleluia! Lord help us to live out this reality of your love and mercy each day by being obedient to rulers and being prepared for every good work. Help us keep you as our focus waiting for your guidance and direction, waiting for the works that you have prepared for us to do. Lord we know that what comes out of our mouth reveals what is in our hearts. Lord continue to transform us so that what we say is gentle, not quarrelsome or evil. May our words build one another up, encourage and bring you glory. In Jesus Name! Amen!
