2 Timothy – pray write grow

As we start this new year, God has put it on my heart to pray scripture in the coming days. There will be a slight change to my format, but I hope you will join me in raising our voices in prayer.

PRAY

Dear God, we praise you that you are love, and that you have given us the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide and grow us. Lord help us to see more clearly your will for our lives through your word today.

WRITE

READ 2 Timothy 1:6-7

“I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

What does Paul remind Timothy to do?
How does Paul describe the spirit that is in Timothy and us?
Do you have something that you are afraid of?
What can you actively do to exercise your spirit of power and love and self control in regard to that fear?

GROW

Remember to fan into flame the gift that God has given you…

Dear Father God we thank you that you that we do not have to live in fear because you have given us a spirit of power and love and self-control. Lord help us to live with confidence not in our own strength, but in yours. Not with our own love, but with yours. And in full dependance of of your will and not our own. In Jesus Name – Amen!

Your Gift to God -Show Him You Love Him

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today. Remember to read the entire passage

1 John 2:1-6

“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”
1 John 2:1-6 NLT

How can we be sure we know Him?
What does this reveal to the world?
If we desire to live in God who is our model?
God knows we are not perfect. Reread the verses 1 & 2. Besides your role model, what are the other roles of Jesus in your life given here?
We are not in this alone… (“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2Timothy1:7). He both desires our obedience and works in us to accomplish it. Pray and ask God to give you the power, love and self control to demonstrate how much you love Him.

Show the world you love God – it is your gift to Him! I will be praying for you!

Faithfully Serve

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Matthew 25:14-30

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 25:14-30

In the Matthew passage Jesus shares with us the picture of a faithful servant. What characteristics did the faithful servants reveal?
If you are a believer, you are saved by God’s gift of grace through faith in Christ. Still, it is in this faith we were created by God to do “good works.”

*You HAVE received a gift! (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)
* God asks you to USE your gifts! (1 Peter 4:10)
* DON’T BURY YOUR TALENTS!

Ask God to reveal to you today your talents and how you can best use them in service to Him! Write down your prayer…pray it frequently and watch as God grows you.

Not Ashamed

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Romans 1:16-17

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.'”
Romans 1:16-17

The Gospel is the Good News of Jesus Christ, His life, His death, His resurrection & His return for the salvation of all who believe.

Verse 16 proclaims the Gospel is what?
To whom is the power of salvation available?
When you become a believer, you are saved and justified by faith in Christ. Through Him God pours out His grace and gives you the gift of righteousness (Romans 1:17). In this verse how are you told the righteous should live?
I once read or heard – I can not remember – the quote, “Trust in God’s grace and act on your faith.” It is so easy to think of faith as a quiet & personal. But here we are told to LIVE by faith! How are you being called to actively live your faith.

Patiently Working for God

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
2 Timothy 2:22-26

“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness.”
2 Timothy 2:24,25 ESV

As a worker for God what are you called to flee?
What are the characteristics you are directed to pursue?
Here Timothy differentiates between situations to avoid and useful events in the lives of the unbeliever. What does Timothy instruct you to avoid?
List the qualities Timothy shares that you should nurture as a servant of the Lord?
Timothy then concludes with the purpose of your gentle and patient behavior. Share how God can use you.
Think of the example you give. Are your quarrelsome? Do you get involved in little spats that mean nothing just to prove your point? Do you share the truth with gentleness? Ask God to reveal to you which trait in you needs some Holy Spirit work. Begin to pray each day about the growth of that characteristic in your life.

What’s the Point?

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.

Read 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5

Why can we trust what is written in God’s Word? Because that is exactly what it is GOD’s WORD!

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction,
and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
2Timothy 3:16 ESV

Using the entire passage from 2 Timothy, make a list of the ways scripture can be used in your life.
If you are diligent about seeking God and using scripture in your everyday life, what will result?
In 2 Timothy 4:2 Paul reiterates the list in a new way. Consider how it would look if you live the charge that Paul makes. Write the thoughts the Spirit has revealed to you about following Paul’s charge.
