As we start this new year, God has put it on my heart to pray scripture in the coming days. There will be a slight change to my format, but I hope you will join me in raising our voices in prayer.

PRAY

Dear God, may we tune our hearts to you each and every step of each and every day.

WRITE

READ Proverbs 3:1-12

“My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,
for length of days and years of life
    and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
    bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:1-3

  • Take time to go through this Proverb and write down each command that we are given.
  • Go back through and write the result of each command.

GROW

  • Try to focus this week on taking everything to the Lord – trusting not in your own ways but His!

Dear Father God, we come before you humbled that you see and hear us. Thank you Lord that you promise that when we come before you that we can trust that you will guide our way. It is not that our way will be easy, or perfect or what we would choose, but that you promise that your steadfast love and faithfulness will be with us. Lord help us to bind them around our neck and write them on our heart – trusting you to make our path straight. In Jesus name… Amen

Carry Their Burden with Gentleness

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Galatians 6:1-2

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:1-2 ESV

  • If you see someone in sin what are you asked to do about it?
  • Describe how the Spirit of gentleness will guide us as we encourage, teach or admonish one another (see Colossians 3:12-17).
  • Are you asked to shame and accuse those carrying the burden of sin?
  • What are you called to do instead?
  • What is the purpose of bearing the burden’s of our brothers and sisters in Christ (this doesn not mean engaging in the sins themselves see Galatians 6:1)?
  • Look to John 15:4, 5 for more insight into how Christ asks us to treat one another. Comment on  just how Jesus calls us to love.
  • What are some ways that God has recently been encouraging you to act with gentleness?

Matthew 11:29b

“‘Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”‘
Matthew 11:29b NIV

The passage that this verse is found in is one I look to often. Especially when I feel bogged down by earthly things. But, I just want you to look here at how Jesus describes himself…

  • Write the words Jesus uses to reveal His character.
  • Define humble and gentle.
  • Jesus instructs you to learn from him, what can you learn about how to interact in your day-to-day life.
  • Is there something you need to change? Write about what the Spirit has revealed to you. Ask Jesus to show you how to be humble and gentle.

The Fruit of the Spirit is Gentleness

Proverbs 15:4

“A gentle tongue is a tree of life,
but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.”
Proverbs 15:4

  • This verse was very convicting to me! What does it mean to have a gentle tongue?
  • What is the result of a gentle tongue?
  • What is the result of a tongue filled with perverseness?
  • Which do you want to impart, life or a broken spirit? Write a prayer asking for God’s gentleness to be woven in your words that you would bring His love & life to all who hear.

Faithfully Focused on Christ

Hebrews 12:1-2

pink wreath write

  • Many have come before us full of faith and amazing examples of living by faith (if you’d like, read Hebrews 11 for greater insight). Yet, this brief passage sums up how to walk by faith.  On whom should you focus?
  • You are told to take action! First you need to put aside every weight (distraction) & every sin. Make a list of anything that might be pulling your focus away from Christ.
  • Next you are instructed to do what?
  • This race of life isn’t a sprint (no matter how hard we might try to make it one), what kind of race are we running?
  • This passage tells us there is a reason we are  to look to Christ. What are His two roles revealed here?
  • Jesus is willing to perfect your faith. He has shown his faithfulness as He endured the cross for your salvation. Open your heart to Jesus and allow Him to perfect your faith. Write a prayer asking him to do just that!

I Choose Faithfulness

Psalm 119:25-32

“I have chosen the way of faithfulness.”
Psalm 119:30a ESV

blue circle write

  • The Psalmist asks repeatedly throughout this passage for God to impart His mighty word in His life. Write down some of the phrases he uses to make this request of God.
  • In Psalm 119:30a  he makes a proclamation. What is it?
  • Part of living the way of faithfulness is knowing God’s word, His precepts & seeking His guiding. Read over His commandments (Exodus 20:1-21) and ask God to reveal Himself to you. Write down anything that sings out to you!
  • Are you willing to make the same proclamation as the Psalmist? If you are…write it down and pray that God will fill you with the Spirit of Faithfulness!
