Thank you Lord that you have knit us together in our mothers womb. Thank you Lord that you have known us before the foundation of time and that you have numbered every hair on our head. Thank you that you know us and you see us and that when we come to know Jesus – that you never leave us. Alleluia!!!!
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 ESV
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10NLT
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 NIV
What do you think of when you imagine a masterpiece?
That’s you! You are God’s masterpiece! Write a prayer of thanksgiving to God for all the special ways he has gifted you.
When God gave you a new life in Christ he did it for a purpose. According to this verse, what is that purpose?
This verse tells us that God has already planned the good works for us – we just have to walk in them. Do you see God calling you to walk in any certain way? Write a prayer asking God to reveal where he wants you to walk – how your life can glorify Him!
Dear Father God! Thank you so much that you have created us to be unique and special. That you have gifted us in special ways and you have created good works for us to accomplish in your name. Guide us Lord so that we will honor you and bring you glory with our lives. We know that “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 – so lead us Lord that we may experience your joy as we walk in your ways.
As we start this new year, God has put it on my heart to pray scripture in the coming days. There will be a slight change to my format, but I hope you will join me in raising our voices in prayer.
Dear God, we come before you with praise. Praise that you are the sovereign, omniscient, merciful God… full of love and grace. We are in awe that the One who set the stars in the sky is also the one who knows every hair on our head. Thank you for the gift of Jesus Christ who has put us in right relationship with you and for the privilege of coming before you in prayer. Alleluia. Amen.
READ Psalm 16:8
“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.”
Write down the action that the Psalmist takes.
Write down the result of that action.
No matter what you are going through, what is coming against you, what is unknown or what is hoped for… when we choose to keep the Lord before us we can be sure that we will not be shaken. Trust…
Dear Father God we thank you that you are our foundation and our strength. Help us to always keep our eyes on you, the founder and perfecter of faith. Knowing that when we do… we will not be shaken. Lord if we are feeling rattled, lost or afraid – help us to remember that you never leave us or forsake us…we will not be shaken. In Jesus Name – Amen!
Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today. Remember to read the entire passage.
“The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.”
“The Lord is the portion of my inheritance, my cup [He is all I need]; You support my lot.”
Psalm 16:5 AMP
“Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine.”
Psalm 16:5 NLT
The end of Psalm 16 is quoted by both Peter (Acts 2) and Paul (Acts 13) pointing us to the identity of Jesus – that “‘You will not let your Holy One see corruption.” (Acts 13:35) This points to the truth that Jesus would indeed be resurrected and reign forever. Praise God! Still, the entire Psalm reveals to us where our hearts should be and encourages us to look forward to eternal life with our Lord in heaven! What joy!
Looking to verse 1 what is the Psalmist’s (probably David) first request?
His refuge is the Lord – Ask the Lord to be your refuge! And trust God for His protection whatever may be swirling in your life.
In verse 5 the Psalmist makes a choice. He doesn’t choose to rely on the things of this world to fulfill him. Instead what choice does he make?
God is all you need! No matter all of the “if only’s” you have in your life. Write down some of them. Then cross them off and write – God is all I need!
Write down verse 8! Memorize it! Live like it! What difference does it make if the Lord is what you choose to pursue?
What is the result when we make this choice (see verses 9-11)?
What is your choice?!
Though our bodies will see decay (if we die before Jesus returns)- when we trust in Jesus and put our lives in the hands of the Lord we too can look forward to eternity in heaven with our Almighty God! Alleluia!
Praying that you will set the Lord always before you! You will not be shaken! Praying for you!
