What Does the Lord Require

blue wreath pray

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Micah 6:6-8

“What does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?”
Micah 6:8 ESV

  • Using Micah 6:6-7 as a guide, what do humans think they can pay for their sins?
  • We are now sanctified by the blood of Christ, praise the Lord (Hebrews 9:11-14) ! Still, God tells us here the life He has called us to live. Rewrite verse 8 in the first person.
  • Explain how to apply this to your own life (see Philippians 2:1-11 for a picture of humility).

Thus Says the Lord…Show Kindness

pink rect stitch pray

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Zechariah 7:8-14

“Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Render true judgments,
show kindness and mercy to one another…'”
Zechariah 7:9

pink rect stitch write

  • How did Zechariah know what to speak?
  • Using v. 9 & v.10, list what God asks of His people?
  • How did the people respond?
  • They refused to listen & hardened their hearts. What does Jesus tell us about our heart condition (see Mark 12:28-31)?
  • What is the consequence the people suffer?
  • What can you do today to render true judgements and show kindness & mercy?

You do not want to be in a desolate land! Pray about it and ask God to reveal if you have hardened your heart toward Him in any way. Is there any anger, unforgiveness, stubbornness, covetousness, envy, gossip…

To Do and Do Not

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Ephesians 4:29-32

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:32ESV

  • According to Ephesians 4:29, what should & shouldn’t be coming out of your mouth?
  • When God’s Spirit lives in you, you have been sealed for redemption. For this reason, Paul implores believers with what request?
  • Let it all go! Make a list of the traits you are called to “put away.”
  • Instead, write about how you are called to live your life?
  • Write about what it means to forgive, “as God in Christ forgave you” (v. 32).
  • Pray about it…is there anyone in your life that you need to forgive as you have been forgiven?

Growing the Fruit of Kindness

Philippians 4:14-20

Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble.”
Philippians 4:14 NIV

  • As Paul toils on in service of the Lord he gladly thanks the Philippian church for what gift?
  • Note v. 15 & v.16. What strikes you about how the Philippians helped Paul?
  • Paul points out that he was not seeking the gifts they gave him, but he was seeking what was growing in them. What did he see growing? (reading the ESV will help with this question)
  • How does Paul describe the gifts the Philippians shared?
  • God will meet all of your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Read Jesus’ own words in Matthew 6:25-34 and write about how He has provided for you.
  • Realizing the amazing gift that He has given you, pray & write about where He is calling you to share His spirit of  kindness.

“To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen”
Philippians 4:20 ESV

  • If you seek to live a life with kindness (love, mercy) what is the reward?
  • What are you hunting, pursuing, following after in your life today?

Smile today and show someone a little kindness. It’s amazing what joy it can bring.

Need Patience – Seek It

blue wreath pray

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Matthew 7:7-11

“For everyone who asks receives,
and the one who seeks finds,
and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”
– Jesus
Matthew 7:8

  • Jesus promises you that if you seek, you will find. I ask you today – do not only ask God for patience (if you need it of course) but also seek after it. You need to think action not reaction! Allow the Spirit to work within you, and then take action and follow the lead!
  • Think of a recent event where you didn’t remain patient. Confess it, and ask God to reveal what could you have done differently? Write about it

Patiently Waiting

pink pennant pray

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
James 5:7-12

“You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.”
James 5:8 ESV

pink pennant write

  • How long are you called to be patient?
  • You are not only called to be patient for the Lord’s coming, but you must also take action in your own life. What is this action?
  • This should be a daily activity! What does Matthew 24:42 tell us about Jesus’ coming?
  • What does v. 9 tell us is one way to prepare your heart?
  • I’ve been known to grumble – how about you? Remember God hears it all! Not only that, but the person you just grumbled about was created in God’s own image (Genesis 1:27). Something to think about!
  • Who does this passage reveal as examples of  patience?
  • Ultimately the lives of these prophets reveal which of Lord’s characteristics?

Those apply to you, too!!!! Remain patient and steadfast – God is merciful & compassionate!

Patiently Working for God

blue circle pray

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
2 Timothy 2:22-26

“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil,  correcting his opponents with gentleness.”
2 Timothy 2:24,25 ESV

blue circle write

  • As a worker for God what are you called to flee?
  • What are the characteristics you are directed to pursue?
  • Here Timothy differentiates between situations to avoid and useful events in the lives of the unbeliever. What does Timothy instruct you to avoid?
  • List the qualities Timothy shares that you should nurture as a servant of the Lord?
  • Timothy then concludes with the purpose of your gentle and patient behavior. Share how God can use you.
  • Think of the example you give. Are your quarrelsome? Do you get involved in little spats that mean nothing just to prove your point?  Do you share the truth with gentleness? Ask God to reveal to you which trait in you needs some Holy Spirit work.  Begin to pray each day about the growth of that characteristic in your life.

The Gift of the Spirit is Patience

pink oval dot pray

Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.

And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.
1 Thessalonians 5:14

pink oval dot write

  • Do you have some difficult people in your life? This verse tells us exactly how we need to act toward them. How are we to treat them?
  • It can be so hard to be patient, but we are examples of Christ on earth. When we show our love through our patience we teach others about Him. Is there someone you can think of that you need to be more patient with?

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. This is actually a piece of one of my new year’s resolutions. Ok – I know it isn’t January. But, it is the beginning of a new school year and I’m trying to get into some new habits. Here it is…No more rushing. Be deliberate about what you are doing. Be present where you are and stop thinking about what’s next. If I am real and in the moment it makes it so much easier to be patient. This will take a lot of prayer, as this is not natural for me. I’m always in a hurry. But, I quit!  I’m asking the spirit to help me be patient with myself and others. Want to join me for the journey?
