Love – God’s Way

PRAY

 Read Matthew 22:36-40
Exodus 20:1-17

“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'”
Matthew 22:37-39

WRITE

  • Jesus tells us that all of God’s law is dependent on these two commandments.  Divide the Ten Commandments into these two sections.
  • Is there a place in your life that you are not loving God with all your heart all your soul and all your mind? Have you made yourself an idol? Are you careless with your language? Write about it… and ask God to cleanse you and lead you into complete devotion to Him.
  • Is there a person in your life that you are not loving the way God has asked you to love?(see also John 13:34). Ask God to show you what you need to change and to love without strings .(see 1 Peter 1:22)

GROW

We often love with conditions. A kind of if… then sort of love. But, that’s not the kind of love that God directs us toward. Love me completely He tells us… then go out and love others. He doesn’t say when life is perfect, or when others are nice – he gives us no conditions. He calls us to love Him and love others the way He loves us – unconditionally & completely. Praying for you that He would help you to love earnestly from a pure heart today and every day.

PRAY

 Read Joshua 1:1-9

“‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.'”
Joshua 1:9

WRITE

I let me son pick the scripture for this post. He’s 11 and just starting to figure out what it means to be strong and courageous. And even more, what it means to trust God to be with Him wherever he goes. I think that is the draw of this passage to young boys – and really it is so simple yet so profound! Can you imagine being Joshua? God chose him as the one to lead the people of Israel into the promised land. A people who have been wandering the desert for 40 years. Finally! They have arrived – but it is only just the beginning….

  • Write down God’s promises in the scripture passage. – what do you think He is trying to tell Joshua?
  • Write down God’s commands in this passage.
  • Why does God say that it is important to keep the book of Law always on his lips (and ours)? Why is this reminder so important at this stage of their journey?
  • God may be calling you to lead people, or simply trust Him to take the next step. What is God speaking to you through this passage.

GROW

God so beautifully promises Joshua and us that He will never leave us and that we need not be afraid or discouraged. Still, He commands us to GO… and to be strong and be courageous. Hold tight to God’s promise and step forward with courage and strength knowing that He is with you wherever you go! Praying for you!

He Is

PRAY

 Read Colossians 1:15-19

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”
Colossians 1:16

WRITE

Sometimes I forget my place. Jesus is so big…infinite…eternal…holy! I am none of those things. Do you ever try to make Jesus fit into your own image of who He is? Reading through this Colossians passage is a reminder that no human created image can contain our Mighty God!

  • Using Colossians 1:15-18 make a list of the attributes that Jesus “is”.
  • Considering that “All things have been created through him and for him” does that change the way that you think of yourself or your purpose?
  • What does this passage say pleased God?
  • How did Jesus make peace for us (see also Hebrews 9:22)?
  • Look over the list that you made. Jesus – the image of the invisible God –  died for you! He died to make peace with God – for you! Give thanks now for His mighty sacrifice.
  • Ask God to help you grow to know Jesus more each day.

I love this beautiful song by Natalie Grant! May we all grow to truly know the King of the World…

GROW

Praying that you will take time today to truly seek Jesus.

I Can’t Do It

PRAY

Read 2 Corinthians 12:1-10

WRITE

I’ve been thinking a lot about my strengths & weaknesses lately. God has blessed me with many gifts – and I am so thankful! I pray often about God using me & using my gifts …but, it always seems I am missing the one essential skill I need to take the next step.  I can talk myself out of just about anything.

  • How does this 2 Corinthians  passage destroy that mind-set?
  • When we are weak whose power rests on us?
  • Write down 2 Corinthians 12:10b. Write it again! Write it again! Write it again!
  • Pray about it… ask God – “Where am I using my weakness as an excuse?”
  • Our weakness is an opportunity for God to exhibit His power in us. What is your next step?

GROW

While it may not be easy, and there may be struggles ahead. Remember… “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13. Praying this for you today.

Long Enough…

too-short

PRAY

Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save…
Isaiah 59:1

WRITE

One of my dearest friends shared this verse with me. We were talking about trials and tests and walking forward into the unknown. I guess I love this verse because it reminds me of the sovereign power of our almighty God (and my dear dear wise friend).

Write about what it means to you that the Lord’s arm is never too short…

GROW

Pray that the Lord would reveal His sovereign power to you, and that your trust in His strength would grow each day.

Believing is Seeing

believing-is-seeing

Read Acts 9:1-19

“The Lord told him, ‘Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying'” (v. 11)….“’Lord,’ Ananias answered, ‘I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem.'” (v.13)… “Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.'” (v.19)

WRITE

We always hear it said, “Seeing is believing.” But that really isn’t how faith works. Faith works when we believe despite what we do see, or don’t see, or think we see.  “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1. Basically this is what it comes down to – Believe God’s Promises!  The Bible is thousands and thousands of pages of promises fulfilled. Why do we not trust Him enough to walk forward in faith? He is not going to leave you (Matthew 28:20) & He continues to work in you (Philippians 1:6).  Remember… “The one who calls you is faithful.” 1 Thessalonians 5:24.

  • Imagine being Ananias. Write about what it would be like to be used by God to minister to someone who violently opposes Christ.
  • Do you feel God calling you to do something (big or small) where you need to trust Him?
  • Write about it and ask the Lord to help you see past the road blocks that keep coming up and give you perseverance to walk forward trusting Him (Hebrews 12:1-2).

WALK BY FAITH – JEREMY CAMP

GROW

Believing is Seeing – it’s seeing God for who he is & trusting Him for His promises.  Keep your Eyes on Jesus… and keep believing! Praying this for you today…

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

Truth = Freedom

TAKE TIME TO PRAY  BEFORE YOU BEGIN…

John 8:31

WRITE

  • What action does Jesus desire that we take to be considered His disciple?
  • Think about what it means to abide – maybe even look up the word – how can we abide in the word of Jesus?
  • So… if we abide in His word what will we know?
  • When we know the truth we are ____________.
  • Jesus calls himself the “the way, and the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6) He is the truth – His word (the Bible) is truth. How does knowing His word His truth set you free?
  • Jesus set you free! Praise Him & ask that He will take you deeper and give you a better understanding of the truth of His word as you abide in Him.

GROW

Praying that the freedom of Jesus Christ is yours today. May you trust in Him, and abide in His word so that you will know the truth! Praying for you!

Transferred

TAKE TIME TO PRAY  BEFORE YOU BEGIN…

Read Colossians 1:11-14

WRITE

It is too awesome to imagine that God places us into His kingdom when we believe in His Son as our Savior. We have been delivered – transferred – by His grace (Romans 5:2) and are now Kingdom citizens (Philippians 3:20)!  We have been forgiven through the blood of Jesus- we have been redeemed!

  • We give thanks to our Father because he has given us what kinds of inheritance?
  • Picture the image of the darkness of this world in contrast to the light of His Kingdom. Write about that image. Darkness of this world v. Light of Christ (John 8:12, John 12:46)
  • Our eternal life does not begin after we die. Our eternal life begins when we choose Jesus! Then we have a new citizenship. Amidst the turmoil of this world, how can this reality change our perspective on how we live and the events of the day?

GROW

Praying that you  will “be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy” – Praying for you!

Read Psalm 144:1-4

WRITE

Psalm 144 paints a beautiful picture of God’s immovable character. He is our love, our protection our refuge. The idea of deliverer especially impacted me. Our almighty God has delivered us from what we once were and brought us into a new and eternal kingdom. On of the definitions of deliverer is “the one who saves from destruction.” Let that sink in. We have bee saved from a sure path of destruction through His grace that we might have life in Christ. (John 5:24) (Romans 6:4) (Romans 16:13) (2 Corinthians 5:17)

  • Write the idea of God as deliverer…
  • Take time now to thank Him for delivering you from your path of destruction.
  • It doesn’t end at salvation… He continues to be your deliverer. Is there something you need to be delivered from? Take time now, lay it down and ask for rebirth in this part of your life.

GROW

This is a beautiful song by Matt Maher – Deliverer

Praying that the you would feel renewal today as you trust in the Lord to be your deliverer. May He be your steadfast love, fortress, stronghold, deliverer, shield and refuge.
