It’s About the View

TAKE TIME TO PRAY  BEFORE YOU BEGIN…

“Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…”
Hebrews 12:1-2

WRITE

Sometimes it seems like a long long race, with a very hilly winding course. Sometimes it stretches out before us straight and flat. But no matter the road ahead, we have one view that should be in front of us at all times. Jesus!

How is your race challenging today? Tired? Confused? Fear of the unknown? Sin weighing you down? Write an entry laying it all in the hands of the Lord, laying aside every weight and sin.  Then ask Him to guide you and give you perspective as you move forward with your eyes on Jesus – trusting Him to lead you!

GROW

You are a precious, loved, unique creation in Christ. He has set a path before you and no matter the course he will lead you through it perfectly. Just keep your eyes on Him… make that view in front of you always Jesus and He will never let you down! Praying that you will have a clear vision of the path before you and renewed strength as you keep your eyes fixed on Him!

Job 38

where were you

Pink dots write

There is so very much in the book of Job, and today we are not going to get into the layers and purposes of this important story. But, we are going to listen as God speaks to Job in response to Job’s “fault-finding” (Job 40:2).

  • In His power God responds from a whirlwind. What an awesome vision. As you read through chapter 38 envision each picture that God gives us that reveal who he is. Write down some of His statements that bring new understanding to God as creator.
  • As we here on Earth come to greater and greater understanding of the physical world, many put themselves in the place of God. But what evidence does He give of His great power & wisdom?
  • God’s plan of and for creation is so much greater than we can see with our eyes or understand with our limited intellect. Read Job 42:1-6. What is Job’s response when he realizes his own place in God’s creation?
  • Do you question why, how, when, what-if, if-only?He has a perfect plan and he knows. WE DO NOT KNOW the purposes, layers, wisdom, knowledge of God. Lay your questions at the feet of God, write them down, confess & trust God!

  • The beginning of this passage starts with a warning – what is it?
  • I think in our culture we sometimes believe that we somehow create the good in our lives. How does James correct that thinking?
  • God is Creator God & we can be certain that He is unchanging (v. 17c). He doesn’t shift like shadows or sway in the current of cultural change. Read Romans 8:28. Even when events, circumstances & life in general does not seem “good” we can be certain of what truth?!!!!
  • God is good! He has a perfect plan! What did He choose to do for you and me (v. 18)?
  • We have been changed by His word of truth – the Gospel of Jesus  Christ! And have now taken what place in creation?
  • We are a kind of first-fruits. Look up what first fruits are (http://www.biblestudytools.com/dictionary/first-fruits/). Write down your thoughts.
  • Take time now to praise Him for His perfect, life changing, awesome Gift of His Son – Jesus Christ!

  • Who is Jesus praying for in this passage?
  • You! If you know Jesus as your savior then He is praying for you! It really is too much to even fathom. From v. 21 what does he ask God to provide?
  • Jesus desires that we would be unified just as the Father and the Son are one. What is the result of that connection? Finish the SO THAT statement.
  • When this occurs what is accomplished (v. 23)?
  • Ultimately the world does not know God. But, Jesus has made Him known for what purpose?
  • Jesus desires that the love of God would be in us and that He would be in us (John 15:1-11). This is a love so great and deep that it can transform us and the world. Respond to this amazing love.
  • What insights does this shine into your life and how will you respond and apply it? Write down your thoughts and ask the Lord to lead you on this journey into deeper love with Him

Psalm 33

We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

Psalm 33:20-22

  • This is a beautiful Psalm that clearly reveals who God is, His power on this earth, and in the hearts of man. Read over the Psalm and write down all the aspects of our world where God proclaims His authority.
  • How is God’s love described?
  • His love is unfailing as we wait in hope, trusting in Him… what should the condition of our heart be (v. 1-3 & v. 21)?
  • The Bible continually refers to God’s love as steadfast or unfailing (Genesis 39:21, Exodus 15:13,  Psalm 36:7, Jeremiah 9:23-24, 1 Corinthians 13:8) . What does it mean to you to trust in a God whose love never fails?

Philippians 4:12-13

I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:12b-13 NLT

blue wreath write

  • What is Paul’s secret to living?
  • He points out here that it doesn’t matter our circumstance, how can we accomplish whatever is set before us each day?
  • Does Paul tell us that we can do some things, or every-other thing, or almost all things. No… what does he tell us here?
  • So, when life seems like a waterfall, overwhelming or uncertain. Who can we rely on?
  • Write down Philippians 4:13.
  • Now insert whatever is weighing on your heart. I can ……. through Christ, who gives me strength. Pray it… ask Him for His strength. Then trust Him!

As you may know. This verse has taken the country by storm… Steph Curry one of the NBA’s best players lives by it. He writes it on his shoes before every game as a reminder of who he plays for and who enables him to play. May we all write it on our hearts as a reminder of who we live for and who enables us to live. And keep Steph Curry in your prayers as he is an amazing role model to kids (and adults).
