Psalm 22

Posterity shall serve him;
    it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
    that he has done it.

Psalm 22:39-31

  • Within this Psalm is a picture of Christ! What an awesome reminder that the plan of salvation existed long before the coming of Christ. Read Matthew 27. Share your reaction to this amazing piece of the story of our redemption.
  • Time and time again in this Psalm David calls out to God… “I cry by day, but you do not answer.” Each time his cries are followed by a “Yet.” Even when he doesn’t feel God’s presence He responds with what He knows. Write down what David knows to be true.
  • I have a friend who once told me we need to combat our irrational emotions with what we know. It’s about what we think not about what we feel. How does David display this in this Psalm.
  • How can you incorporate that response in your life?

  • He goes on to praise the Lord for His law. Write down the different words he uses to describe God’s way. ex. Law of the Lord = Perfect
  • We often struggle, thinking of rules as rules. But, David doesn’t see God’s way that way at all. How does his description help you to see the freedom and joy available to us in seeking God?

Psalm 18:6

  • Write down Psalm 18:1. Soak it in…what are you trying to do today in your own power? Write down Psalm 18:1 again… remember who is your strength!
  • David reminds us that our prayers don’t just float up into empty air. As with David, our cries have “reached his ears.” Think about that…your prayers have been heard – by the God of the universe. What does that mean to you?
  • How does God answer David’s cry?
  • What is David’s response to God?

Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?
    Who shall dwell on your holy hill?

Psalm 15:1

  • In this Psalm David gives us the blue print to what a righteous life looks like. Make a list of the characteristics of a righteous life.
  • We know that alone we are not righteous…”No one is righteous, no, not one…” Romans 3:10, but through the grace and love of the Father, He gave us the gift of Jesus Christ that through faith in Him we could be found righteous (Read Romans 3:21-26). Then…He begins the process in us that being found righteous we might grow and live the fruit of righteousness. Are you struggling with one of the keys to a righteous life, write a prayer asking God to work and transform you. Then be willing to be transformed!

  • What do Psalm 7:10-13 tell us about God’s justice?
  • Read 1Samuel 24. David is given the opportunity to take justice into his own hands. Instead, what action does he take?
  • How does David conclude his Psalm?
