Ask the Spirit to guide you as you read God’s word for today.
Matthew 20:20-28
I just love the way The Message tells the story. Put yourself in the disciple’s place. Jesus says…
“Whoever wants to be great must become a servant.
Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave.
That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not be served—
and then to give away his life in exchange for the many who are held hostage.”
Matthew 20:25-28 The Message
- What makes the argument that takes place at the beginning of this passage relevant to you?
- In Jesus’ kingdom what makes someone great?
- As stated in this passage what was Jesus’ purpose?
- Jesus’ attitude is very different from that of our human nature (and he’s actually worthy of the title Master). I know just tonight I was feeling a little weary of serving. But, we are called to serve where we are! What does Jesus’ precept about greatness call you to in your own life?
Leave a comment and share what God revealed to you today! I will be praying for you!
As a mother I can relate to the mother of James and John. I want the best for my children and grandchildren. In this Jesus again states His place. It’s not up to me to decide it’s up to my Farher. In our lives we too are not to decide but to submit our will to The Lord. Day by day we pick up our cross to follow Him. May it be so to His Glory.
We are so desperate for everything to go just right…but we have to trust that His plan is so much greater than what we can see. You are so right. He promises us that He is always with us! We need to rely on Him no matter where our path takes us, and continue to serve Him where he puts us. My new favorite verse is “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” John 14:1
